Just in from Patsy and Mary, the Bottle Bill Ladies:
We are happy to say that Rep. Coleman (512-463-0524) added HB2114 as an amendment to another bill on the last day of the regular session. This got the bill in front of the House for a vote, 40 yeas and 101 nays. The following is a link to see who voted and how: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/RecordVote.aspx?LegSess=82R&Bi....
Can you imagine being able to recycle on your own schedule? What about getting rid of all those old electronics that have a disposal fee? What if recycling was convenient and free?
This morning, Green Scene business member and local non-profit, We CAN Recycle, Inc., announced the opening of their new 24/7 recycle drop-off center conveniently located just east of downtown.
The new recycling center in the north part of Houston features a large parking area along with ramps for dropping off heavy trash items such as tires, furniture, large appliances and yard waste. Residents can also drop off their household recycling.
Six easy to do tips after the gifts have been opened and the parties are over:
1. Cut the front off of cards and save them to use as gift tags for holiday postcards next year.
2. Save the ribbon and wrapping paper for reuse.
3. Dispose of holiday waste responsibly - recycle everything that can be recycled, save things that can be reused and put food scraps in the compost or your food waste bin.
Don’t trash your tree this holiday season, recycle it! The Ground Up (TGU) is happily accepting donated Christmas trees throughout the month of January to be ground into mulch. Houstonians can drop off their trees to TGU’s main site in Northwest Houston or at their new location in the Richmond/ Katy area. Make it a resolution this new year to keep your used tree out of a landfill and give it back to the Earth!
