Mayor Parker has plans for Metro...and so does Houston Tomorrow.
Just in from a CTC Newsletter by Robin Holzer
At a press conference on March 18, City of Houston Mayor Annise Parker announced her nominees to represent the City on METRO's board of directors. Houston City Council voted this morning to confirm these appointments.
Mayor Parker selected METRO transition team co-chair and investment banker, Gilbert Garcia, to lead the METRO Board. Three more nominees are engineer Allen Dale Watson, and attorneys Carrin Pittman and Dwight Jefferson.
The fifth nominee, Christof Spieler, is a technical advisor to CTC and the Director of Technology and Innovation for Morris Architects. Christof also served four years on CTC's board and authors the Intermodality blog. Christof has written about transit and transportation for a decade, ridden three quarters of the transit systems in the US, and has been a daily METRO rider for years. We're delighted that Mayor Parker recognizes Christof's talent and dedication to improving Houston transit!
In addition, Mayor Parker released the reports of the METRO Transition teams. These committees spent three months working to understand the current state of all METRO efforts. Houston Tomorrow posted a summary of the transition team's findings. You can also download and read the transition team's report to the Mayor:
