Houston ReMarket

Time:
Sat, 02/25/2012 - 11:00am - 4:00pm
Description:

Swap - Shop - Recycle at Houston Remarket

SHOP
The market features 10+ local vendors who incorporate reused and recycled material into their hand made art and craft. Additionally, there are several garage sales held at the market each month.

SWAP
Bring your GENTLY used, unwanted items to the swap and take something home for FREE. Although the swap is currently very loosely organized, we plan on creating a forum for more formal swapping in the future. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage bartering so bring us your "junk"!

RECYCLE
Not lucky enough to get recycling collection service at home? Bring your recycling to the Re-Market! We will happily take your plastics 1-5 & 7, aluminum, tin/bi-metal, glass, paper, card stock, and cardboard.

...and, CHILL!
Come eat some great local food, jam to local djs and bands, meet a diverse array of super cool Houstonians.
Houston Re-Market is put together by a group of people who really enjoy fostering entrepreneurship, reusing valuable materials in innovative and creative applications, bartering, and making stuff with their hands! The Re-Market is the brainchild of Mike Cannon (Greeni co-Founder). Working together with his sunshine, Paloma Garner (Greeni co-founder) and a whole bunch of awesome friends, the Re-Market is finally becoming a reality. Come join us for this monthly celebration and be a part of making the Re-Market a Houston landmark!

Swap FAQs

What is the purpose of the swap?
Have you ever had something really cool or useful that you just want out of your life? Of course, we all have! Instead of throwing that useful item away, the swap provides a place for people to leave those items so that others give them a new home.

What type of items are accepted in the swap?
We accept GENTLY used household items and clothing. If it can fit in your car, and somebody can use it (without major repairs, we'll accept it).

Do I have to bring something to the swap to participate?
Nope. If something is left at the swap, it is fair game for anyone's taking!

How are values placed on items brought to the swap?
The swap is not managed meaning that you should not expect anything of "equal" value in exchange. If you are bringing something to the swap that you feel is particularly valuable you should: a) actively find people at the market to barter with including vendors and visitors (we have already had several successes with this)
b) leave it at the swap knowing that it will find a happy home
c) sell it on craigslist

What happens to leftover swap items?
Because the market is in its early stages, leftover swap items are kept until the next market for future swappers. Eventually, leftover swap items will be donated to local charities.

How many items can I bring and/or take home with me?
As many as you wish. Just keep in mind, the swap is NOT a junkyard!

How much does it cost to participate in the swap?
free ninety nine!
