Native Plant Society meeting: Mike Lange, of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, will talk about the Columbia Bottomlands and other nearby refuges. Every year, about 29 million individual migratory birds pass through the Columbia Bottomlands. This thick forest along the southeast Texas coast provides birds their first site of safety and shelter after a grueling northern migration flight of more than 400 miles. The exhausted birds stop to feed and rest in this wet and low-lying, insect-rich area. Please join us to learn more about this nearby resource.
