Welcome to our first Houston Green Guide. It is the result of hours of
research, networking and pure passion to bring together the Houston Green
Scene. While the guide is not yet a comprehensive compilation of the many
green businesses, organizations and individuals—we strive for it to be.

It has been a pleasure connecting with Houston’s green community over the
past year. I have met many incredible people doing amazing things right here
in Houston. If you want to live consciously and be more socially and
environmentally responsible—you’re in good company. Most importantly, I have
become more informed and have been greatly inspired.

Here’s some of what I’ve learned:

Each dollar we spend represents a choice, and these choices determine which
products appear in the marketplace. Companies will produce sustainable
products if consumers desire them and will also respond to declining demand
for products that harm our environment and communities. When we buy earth
friendly, socially responsible and health oriented goods and services, we
are helping to guide the marketplace to a healthier and more sustainable
future. One way to do this is to shop local.

Shopping local has numerous benefits including healthier choices, more
sustainable relationships and an increased community well being. It also
supports and stimulates the local economy by keeping dollars in the city and
is overwhelmingly kinder to the environment. Such benefits lead to an
increased quality of life.
